John Micacci, 83, died on March 4, 2016.

John Micacci, 83, died on March 4, 2016.

John Micacci, 83 of Southington passed away on March 4, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  John was born in Corvara, a Province of Pescara Italy, on August 1, 1932, son of the late Vincenzo and Rosa (DiFabio) Micacci. He came to America when he was 15 years old not speaking a word of English.  While working odd jobs and going to school he learned to speak English. John later became a mason apprentice.  After learning the trade, John started his own tile, slate and marble business where he worked throughout the New England area for almost 60 years.

John was the loving and devoted husband of Katherine (Alagna) Micacci for almost 54 years.  Besides his wife, he is survived by three beloved daughters, Karen A. Micacci and husband Richard Langan of Southington, Linda Micacci of West Hartford, and Ann Marie Micacci Flynn and husband Michael Flynn of Southington, three grandchildren, Jacob, Gabriella and John Flynn who were the apple of his eyes, a sister Mary Albino of Wethersfield, a brother Anthony Micacci of Kensington, along with several nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by a brother-in-law Michael Albino, a sister-in-law Lucille Micacci, a niece Lisa Albino and a father-in-law and mother-in-law Samuel and Frances Alagna.  He was a parishioner and a benefactor of St. Dominic Church in Southington and an active member of the Sons of Italy.

Family and friends were the number one priority in John’s life.  He gave of himself through his love of gardening and sharing of his bounty.  Whatever John had, he shared.   He donated his time and craft to many schools, group homes and hospitals including St. Dominic Church and School.  John’s simple belief was that God sees everything and one should treat everyone with dignity and respect. This belief lives on within his children and grandchildren.  He lived life to its fullest and in his own way.

The Micacci family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of John’s loving family and caring friends who visited him countless times while he was hospitalized and offered numerous words of encouragement.  We would also like to thank Southington Care for their outstanding care and dignity they provided John during his previous stays as well as the last few days of his life.  Thank you to The Hospital of Central Connecticut for their devotion and kindness.  A special thank you goes out to Dr. James O’Hara who was not only John’s physician, but a wonderful friend to John and his family.  He guided John’s care to the end and treated John as part of his own family.  We would also like to thank two special doctors—Dr. Neal Goldberg and Dr. Jeffrey Kamradt for their support and help in John’s cancer treatment.  They worked diligently to help John fight a very tough battle so he would have more time with his family and friends.  Lastly, words cannot convey the gratitude and love to Dr. Jayne Cluett for her support, friendship and compassion to the entire Micacci family. Thank you Jayne for all that you have done for us!

A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday March 12, 2016 at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd, Southington.  There are no calling hours.  The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Street, Southington is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Southington Care Center, Recreation & Activity Fund 45 Meriden Avenue, Southington CT 06489 or St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Road, Southington CT 06489.
