Obituary: Martin J. Scanlon Jr., 90

Martin J. Scanlon Jr., 90, of the Plantsville section of Southington passed away on Monday, February 20, 2017 at the Veterans Home and Hospital in Rocky Hill. He was the husband of the late Sally (Tagg) Scanlon.

Born January 9, 1927 in Waterbury he was the son of the late Martin J. Sr. and Margorie (Collins) Scanlon.

Marty was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired as a customer service manager for Peter Paul Candy Manufacturing Company in Naugatuck.

He was a member of the St. Aloysius Holy Name Society, American Legion, Southington Band Backers, and the Boy Scouts.

Marty is survived by his children Maureen Stangl of Bristol, Kevin Scanlon and his wife Kristen of West Haven, Meg Scanlon and her fiancé Allen Moore of Southington, Eileen Kochol and her husband David of Southington and Vinny Carvalho of Rhode Island. Also, two sisters Patricia Palombo (Art) of Waterbury, Carol Lombardi (Jim), of Waterbury, a sister in law Kathleen Scanlon of Watertown, his 14 cherished grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Kathleen (Kate) Scanlon Carvalho and brother William (Bill) Scanlon

Funeral services will be held Monday February 27 at 9:15 am at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington to St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St. Plantsville for a Mass at 10 am followed by a burial with military honors at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday 3 pm – 5 pm.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
