Samuel Longo, 88, died on Saturday, March 26, 2016.
Samuel Longo, 88, husband of the late Elizabeth (Bailey) Longo died at HoCC at New Britain General on Saturday, March 26, after a long and courageous battle with Cancer.
Born in Waterbury on June 21, 1927, he was the son of the late Joseph and Elvira (Morelli) Longo. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He graduated from the University of CT and was a chemist at Anaconda American Brass and CT Testing Labs.
Sam was a devout Roman Catholic, a pro-life advocate and a co-founder of a Waterbury Chapter of Birthright International. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Dominic Church and served on the parish council. He also enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his children Joan and her husband Gary Newman of Barefoot Bay, FL, John and his wife Karen Longo of Lake Zurich, IL, Carol and her husband Jeff Merrill of Merimack, NH, Daniel and his wife Jill Longo of Plantsville, nine grandchildren, Marcus and his wife Cyd Longo, Jacob and Krista Brisson, Nicholas and Jack Longo, Jeb and Ethan Merrill, Connor and Madeline Longo, and a brother Joseph and his wife Sandi Longo of Barefoot Bay, FL. Besides his wife he was predeceased by a sister Grace DeMunda.
Funeral will be Saturday 8:45 from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St. in Southington to St. Dominic Church for Mass at 9:30. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. Calling hours are Friday from 5 to 7 PM.
