Joanne (Secondo) Cotugno, 77, of Southington, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016 at home. She was the wife of the late Leonardo Cotugno.
She was born September 27, 1938 in Castel Campagnano, Italy, the daughter of the late Giovanni and Assunta (Carbone) Secondo. She came to the United States at the age of 12 and resided in Southington her entire life. She retired from General Electric of Plainville.
She loved to cook for her family and friends. Her meatballs and pepper biscuits were legendary. She loved her garden and took her role of care giver seriously, taking care of her family, neighbors and friends. She was a frequent visitor to the residents of The Summit at Plantsville nursing home. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church and she was a member of the GE Retirees Club.
She is survived by her children Bonnie C. Mangan of South Windsor, Susan C. Pulaski and Charles, of Southington, and Lina C. Irizarry of Southington, three grandchildren who she loved with all of her heart, Joshua Irizarry and Gabriela Pulaski both of Southington and Elizabeth Mangan of South Windsor, a sister, Anna Garfield and Henry of Savannah, GA, sister-in-law Esterina Secondo of North Miami, FL, brother-in-law Gino Cotugno and Torrina of Rome, Italy and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and devoted friends in the US and Italy.
She was predeceased by a sister Filomena Mazzaro and brother Domenico Secondo.
The funeral will be held Thursday, May 26, 2016, at 9:15 am from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home; 211 N. Main St. to St. Thomas Church at 10 am for a Mass. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday May 25th from 3 -7 pm.
