Obituary: Giovannina (Carusone) Luongo, 85

Giovannina (Carusone) Luongo, 85, of Southington, passed away on Saturday, March 25th surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Domenico Luongo.

She was born on April 3, 1931 in Treglia, Italy, the daughter of the late Antonio and Angelina (Ragozzino) Carusone.  Giovannina enjoyed cooking for her family,baking pepper biscuits and spending time with her family, her family was the world to her.

She is survived by her loving children, Margherrita  Tatlovich and husband Alan, Vincenza Pazillo and husband Rick all of Girard, OH, Pasquale Luongo and wife Mary Beth, Angelina Palmieri and husband Lew and Antonio Luongo all of Southington, her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Stefanie, Anthony, Rachel, Danielle, Dominic, Domenic, Zakary and Lukas.  She also leaves brothers

Antonio and Franco Carusone, a sister-in-law Giovanna Carusone and many nieces and nephews including Antonietta, Pietro.  She was predeceased by sisters and brothers, Maria Sabino, Guiseseppina, Michele, Pasquale and Saverio Carusone.

The family would like to thank Dr. Craig Bogdanski for his care and kindness during her illness as well as the staff at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home for their care and compassion.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday at 11 am at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd.  Calling hours will be Saturday morning at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. from 9-10:30 am. Obituary: Robert P. McComb, 90

Robert P. McComb, 90, of Southington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his devoted family on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at HOCC at New Britain General. He had been the loving husband of Charlene (Dionne) McComb for 51 years.

Born October 1, 1926 in Springfield, MA to the late William and Nellie (Hanratti) McComb, he had been a longtime Southington resident.

Robert proudly served in the U.S Navy during WWII from 1944-1946. He retired from sales and remained active in the electronics and photography fields. He enjoyed reading, learning, spending time with his grandchildren, and all things math. He will be remembered for his incredible work ethic and constant devotion to his family.

In addition to his wife Charlene, he is survived by his siblings; Connie Albano of MA and William McComb of NC; his 3 adult children and their spouses: Sandra Gallo, Ellen Delgado (husband Anthony) and Robert McComb (wife Kaitlin). His grandchildren, Sarah, Abigail, and Emily were his absolute pride and joy. He passed onto them an amazing amount of love, devotion, and encouragement. He was predeceased by many beloved family members and friends who he spoke lovingly of over many years.

Robert believed deeply in providing opportunities for pursuing higher education. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s memory may be made to the Justin Wisniewski Firefighter Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 473 Southington, CT 06489.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at St. Dominic’s Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington. Burial with military honors will follow in the State Veteran’s Cemetery, Middletown. Calling hours will be held before the Mass from 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Clifford Pearson, 99, of Southington passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017 at the HCC at Bradley Memorial Campus. He was the husband of the late Shirley (Green) Pearson.

Born May 28, 1917 in Waterbury he was the son of the late Joseph and Isabelle (Carpenter) Pearson.

Clifford was employed by Waterbury Ferrel until his retirement.

He is also survived by 6 children; Carol Favale, Christine Post, Ronaold Pearson, Laurie Rinaldi, Clifford W Pearson and Amy Pearson- Barry; 15 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Obituary: Florence (Sobolewski) Stevens, 87

Florence (Sobolewski) Stevens, 87, of Southington, widow of Chester H. Stevens, died Thursday at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain. Born in New Britain, daughter of the late Roch and the late Mary (Gleba) Sobolewski, she graduated from New Britain High School, and was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for various companies over the years before retiring from Gemar Inc. She was a member of St. Dominic Church in Southington where she was a C.C.D. teacher for a number of years, and a member of the Southington Calendar House where she taught painting classes.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Susan Stevens, and Mark Stevens, all of Southington; two grandsons, Andrew Stevens and his wife, Katharine, of Litchfield, N.H., and Eric Stevens of Southington; a great-grandson, Luke Henry Stevens, and she was eagerly awaiting the birth of a second great-grandson in June.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Hwy., Berlin, before a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Road, Southington. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home Monday, March 20, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Connecticut, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108-3272.

Obituary: Horace ‘Mert’ Adams, 87

Horace “Mert” Adams, 87, passed into his eternal life in Heaven, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, March 27, 2017, after a short illness.

A lifelong Southington resident, Mert was born on October 6, 1929, one of five children to the late Leslie and Evelyn (Sylvia) Adams.

Horace proudly served alongside both of his brothers in the U.S. Army during the post World War II military reconstruction mission, Occupation Germany.  During that hitch, he was a member of the Heavy Mortar Company, 43rd Division, 3rd Platoon. After the war, he was a member of the National Guard, and American Legion, Post 72.

Upon his return home, Mert gave 42 loyal years to the Beaton & Corbin Manufacturing Company until its closure.  He continued his career at the Pegasus Manufacturing Company in Hamden, CT until his retirement.  Horace also was an accomplished horticulturist in his spare time.  His hard work produced a giant garden for many years, from which he shared his harvest abundantly. Mert also adopted many stray cats and dogs throughout the years, and could be found many Saturday afternoons on his beloved basement couch sharing a nap with one or more of them.

Horace leaves behind his adoring wife, Barbara (Ridzik) Adams, to whom he was married for 61 years; his sister, Mary Derynioski and his brother, John Adams and his wife, Diane.  He also leaves his pride and joy, his daughters, Lisa Wallace and her husband, Ted and Lori Goucher and her husband, Rich.  A special place in his heart was reserved for his grandchildren, Erica, Rachel, and Sarah Wallace, and Gary and Timothy Goucher.  He will also be missed by many beloved nieces and nephews, including his special nieces, Suzanne DeMerchant and Nancy Mathews.  Horace was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie and his brother, Leslie Adams.

Mert’s love for animals may be remembered with contributions to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd, Newington, CT 06111.

Funeral services in celebration of Mert’s life will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 581 Meriden Ave., Southington.  Interment with military honors will follow at South End Cemetery.  Family and friends may gather on Friday evening, from 4-7 p.m. at Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Gene “Doc” DeRosa, 90, passed away on Sunday March 26, 2017 at the Village Green in Bristol surrounded by his children.

Born in Southington on April 28, 1926, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Lucy (Carrangelo) DeRosa. He owned and operated Statewide Foundations Inc and was well known for his work in Southington and the surrounding towns. Gene liked the gaming tables in CT, Atlantic City, and Las Vegas. He loved to play cards at the Sons of Italy Club where he was a lifetime member. He also enjoyed golf and was a member of the Scarpa Shoda Gang.

Gene was predeceased by his two sons, David and Daniel DeRosa, two brothers Ralph and Fred DeRosa. Gene is survived by his children, Jeffrey, Lauralyn, Tami Jean and Katie DeRosa all of Southington, grandchildren Techa, Justin, Tiffany, Jaime, Aaron and Bentley, Great Grandchildren, Emma, Madalyn, Josalyn, Antonio, Stacia and Angel, a sister Rita Dube of Bristol, a brother Nick DeRosa Jr. of Waterbury, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be Friday 9:15 Am from DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. main St. Southington to St. Thomas Church for Mass at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 5 to 7 PM.

Obituary: Raymond S. Locks, 86

Raymond S. Locks, 86, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2017 at the HOCC at New Britain General. He was the loving husband of Helen (Zajac) Locks for 62 years.

Ray was born on April 27, 1930 in Hartford to the late Sheridan and Dorothy (Weirauch) Locks.  He grew up in Avon and had been a longtime Southington resident.

Ray was an avid golfer and spent many days with his friends on the former Canton Golf Course. He was a cemetery caretaker at the Holy Trinity National Catholic Cemetery for over 25 years. He loved sports, especially the Boston Red Sox and UCONN.

In addition to his wife Helen, he is survived by one daughter Susan Locks of Southington, brother-in-law Walter Zajac of Southington, his sister Albina Getchell, niece Linda Hawley, nephew, Robert Getchell, all of Bristol and his dear friend, Linda Aube.

In lieu of flowers, Ray may be remembered with contributions to the Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, 200 Summer St., Plantsville, CT 06479.

Obituary: Richard ‘Dick’ A. Fracasso, 74

Richard “Dick” A. Fracasso, 74, of Kensington, died unexpectedly on Monday, March 27, 2017 at The Hospital of Central Connecticut surrounded by his children.

The son of the late Louis M. and Anna (Garesio) Fracasso, Dick was born in New Britain, CT and moved to Kensington where he resided for the past 44 years.  He was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas H.S. and the Hartford Institute of Accounting.  He began his 40-year career in banking as a teller at New Britain National Bank and worked his way up to Senior Vice President.  He retired from Southington Savings Bank after the birth of his first grandchild and happily took on the role of “Nono.”

Dick was also very involved in many community organizations over the years including the Marconi Club, The New Britain Boys Club, Junior Achievement, the Kiwanis Club, and just recently became a member of the Berlin Rotary Club.  He was also a member of St. Paul Church.  Dick was a selfless and devoted husband to Susanne until her death in 2013, father, and grandfather.  His greatest joy was being with his family.

He is survived by his two daughters and a son: Ann Walling and her husband Alan of Plantsville, Amy Fracasso of Branford, and Anthony and his husband Tim White of Silver Spring, MD.  He also leaves his “number one granddaughter” Olivia Rose and his grandson and sports buddy Matthew Richard.  “Uncle,” as he was affectionally called, is also survived by his niece Susanne Cameron, and nephews, Mike Marzi, Rick Marzi, and Albert Fracasso.  He leaves his brother-in-law Lou Marzi and sisters-in-law Liesel Fracasso and Kathleen Charboneau as well as many cousins and dear, close friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Louis M. Fracasso Jr. and sister Lois Marzi.

Funeral services will be held on Monday April 3, 2017 at 9:00 AM from the New Britain Memorial-Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home 444 Farmington Ave. New Britain followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 485Alling St. Kensington.  Entombment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Sunday, April 2nd from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mary Elizabeth (Hickey) Rizzuto, 69, of E. Hartford, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital, with her loving family by her side. She was the loving wife of the late Albert S. Rizzuto.

She was born Sept. 3, 1947 in Hartford, the daughter of the late William and Mary (Donahue) Hickey. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed by American Linen & American Uniform

Mary was a beautiful, loving, and caring woman, who was taken from us much to soon.

She is survived by her son Douglas J. Rizzuto and wife Cara of Southington, her 4 grandchildren, Madison, Taylor, Grant and Jackson. She also leaves 3 sisters, Ann Marzano and husband Donald of West Hartford, Kathleen Daries and husband Neal of East Hartford, Rita Ford and husband John of Glastonbury and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother William Hickey.

Mary (Iarusso) Stevens, 81, of Southington, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at home. She was the wife of the late Newton J. Stevens.

She was born in Meriden on Aug. 22, 1935, the daughter of the late Michael and Sophie Iarusso.

She is survived by brothers-in-law Ferris Stevens and wife Mary Ann and Gordon Lumbra and Georgie, sisters-in-law Norma Stevens and Carol Lumbra and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved son Ronald Stevens and a sister Midge Budnick.

Barbara A. (Sweeney) Judd, 87, of Southington, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the Summit of Plantsville. She had been the loving wife of Kenneth C. Judd for over 65 years.

Born on October 30, 1929 in Meriden to the late James and Viola (Moeller) Sweeney, she had been a longtime Southington resident.

Barbara retired from Bradley Memorial Hospital where she worked as a nurse for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by four children: Gary Judd and his wife Darlene, Philip A. Judd and his wife Maureen, Patricia Flood, all of Southington and Keith Judd and his wife Barbara of FL; 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Obituary: Concetta ‘Dolly’ (Barresi) Colella, 80

Concetta “Dolly” (Barresi) Colella, 80, of Southington formerly of New Britain Connecticut went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 29th 2017.

She was born in New Britain Ct on March 10th 1937. Dolly was the daughter of the late Paul Barresi and his wife Rose Barresi (Tambone) and grew up in New Britain where she met her late husband, Joseph J. Colella. They were married for 36 years. She attended New Britain High School and after graduating became employed as a Telephone operator with SNET for over 25 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many.

Dolly is survived by her Son, James Colella and Wife Lisa Colella and Daughter Paula Chamberland and Husband Paul Chamberland. 7 Grandchildren Mike Colella, Tony Colella, Joe Colella, Rose Colella, Beau Chamberland, Tyler Chamberland, Cassidy Chamberland and six Great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Dolly was a committed volunteer at Bradley Memorial Hospital, an active member of the Southington YMCA and a member of the Pioneers club. She enjoyed Tennis, Traveling, playing cards and most of all being with her family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 4th at 9:00 AM from the New Britain Memorial -Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, followed by a celebration of her life at 10:00 AM at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 296 New Britain Avenue, Newington, CT with the Pastor Cary Schmidt Officiating.  Burial will be in St Mary Cemetery.  A time of visitation will be held Monday, April 3rd, from 4-7pm at the funeral home.

Obituary: Attilio ‘Til’ Betti, 94

Attilio “Til” Betti, 94, of Southington, passed away at Bradley Hospital, March 29, surrounded by loving family. He was ready to go home to God. Til was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Alice (Barnes) Betti.

He was born in New Britain, Oct. 24, 1922 to his late parents, Eugenio and Zena (Nardini) Betti. He served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. Upon his discharge at the end of the war, he returned to New Britain to his job at The Stanley Works where he was employed for 43 years until his retirement. After his retirement, he did the home delivery service for Serafino Pharmacy in Southington for several years. Til was a member of the First Baptist Church of Southington and had served on the Board of Trustees.

He is survived by two daughters, Alice and husband Robert Norton of Londonderry, NH, and Nancy and her husband Ronald Serafino of Southington; 4 grandchildren, Amanda and husband Tim LaPorte, Katie and husband Jason Foster, Christina Serafino and her fiancé Brian Yount , Paul Serafino and wife Carolyn; his  greatgrandchildren, Taylor Michael, Aubrey, Madeline and Carina and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to nieces Melanie MacDonald  and Gaile Colaresi.

He was predeceased by his 3 sisters, Eleanor Morrissey, Elda Covaleski and Ida Colaresi.

Anthony P. “Dort” D’Agostino, 103 years young, of Southington, formerly of Bristol, passed away peacefully after a short illness Tuesday, March 29, 2017 at Bristol Hospital. He was the husband of Lucille (Allard) D’Agostino.

He was born March 23, 1914 in Southington, the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Audi) D’Agostino. He had retired from Wallace Barnes Co. of Bristol after 45years of service.

Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Rosemarie (Chickie) Tedesco of Southington, Anthony D’Agostino and his wife Helen of Port St. Lucie, FL, Annette (Tina) Bengston and husband Joe of Southington. He also leaves his grandchildren, Melissa and Jon St. James, Brian and Amber Bengston, Todd and Chauntelle D’Agostino, Matthew and Elizabeth D’Agostino, Lisa and Josh Robinson, Kristina Badenhorst and David D’Agostino II, his great grandchildren, Erica, Cameron, Luke, Sophie, Kayla, Nathan and Reagan , Sophie, Brandon, Caitlyn and Jake. He also leaves his sister Josephine Forcella of Plainville and sister-in-law Annette D’Agostino of Plantsville, brother-in-law Emile Allard of Enfield and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son David D’Agostino, a grandson Michael Bengston, son-in-law Thomas Tedesco Jr. , brothers Philip A. , Angelo, Arthur, Patrick and Michael D’Agostino, sisters, Mary Serafino and Palma Nardi.

Virginia S. Luddy, formerly of Wolcott, passed away on Thursday, March 30, at the Orchards in Southington. She was the widow of Ellsworth Luddy.

Virginia was born in Crown Point, New York, daughter of the late Arthur and Jean (Allan) Slinn.

Geraldine A. (Lazorik) Frawley, 82, of Southington passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 with her devoted husband Edward at her side.

Gerri was born in New Britain on Nov. 8, 1934, the daughter of the late Andrew and Helen Lazorik. She attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and graduated from Mount St. Joseph’s School, W. Hartford in 1952.

Gerri and Edward were married in 1954 they were to celebrate their 63 year wedding anniversary on May 1, 2017.

She leaves behind her children, Michael Frawley and wife Carol of New Haven, her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Donna Frawley of Southington, Teagan Frawley and wife Bonnie of FL and Shawn Flanagan and husband Tim of SC. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Her presence and devotion will be greatly missed.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Britain. There are no calling hours. Mary D. Witiak, 99, a resident of the Home of the Good Shepherd, passed away Tuesday evening, March 28, 2017.

Born on July 20, 1917 in Bridgeport, CT, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Pangrazia (Intellisano) Muscolino.

Mary married Steve Witiak on November 27, 1943 in Bridgeport. Mr. Witiak died on April 22, 2003 following 60 years of marriage. She was employed as a seamstress at Warner’s and Princess Pat in Bridgeport, CT for many years. In 2003 she moved to the area to be closer to her daughter. Mary was very talented with handiwork. She loved all needlework including sewing, knitting, crocheting and crewel. She also enjoyed baking and was an avid reader. Mary was gifted with a wonderful sense of humor that she shared with everyone she met. It was a pleasure to be in her company. After a conversation with her, you would have a smile on your face. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Steve Witiak; her brothers, Joseph, George and Rosario “Sal” Muscolino; her son-in-law, Francis Daley. Survivors include her daughter, Pat “Woody” Daley of Queensbury’ many nieces and nephews and her two extended families, her adopted NY family of very special friends and the staff at the Home of the Good Shepherd.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 8th at 10:30 at St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St., Southington. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be prior to the Mass from 9-10:00 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington.

Obituary: Richard ‘Dick’ Riccio, 74

Richard “Dick” Riccio, 74, of Southington passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the West Haven VA Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Claudia (Palmisano) Riccio.

He was born in New Britain on May 7, 1942, the son of Michael Riccio Rich and Carmelina (Giano) Rich. Dick was a 1961 Graduate of Southington High School and he was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement he was employed by SNET-ATT for over 40 years. He was a member of the Southington Elks, American Legion #72, VFW, Sons of Italy and the Maria Degli Angeli Society. Dick loved to fish and spend time with his family especially his grandsons and his lifelong friends.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Missy Riccio Santos and husband Carlos of Middlebury and Jason Riccio and wife Katie of Plantsville, his cherished grandsons Sasha Santos and Travis James Riccio. He also leaves a brother Michael Riccio and wife Bee of Southington and mother-in-law Carmela (Velodotta) Palmisano of Southington as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 7th at 9:15 am from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to St. Thomas Church at 10 am. Burial will be with military honors at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday, April 6th from 5-8 pm.

Genevieve (Janick) Staschke, 88, of Southington, passed away Friday, March 31, 2017 at home. She was the wife of the late Roy E. Staschke.

She was born July 21, 1928 in New Britain, the daughter of the late Peter and Mary ( Murawski) Janick.

She will be dearly missed by her surviving children, Wayne Staschke and wife Joan of Guilford, Elaine Sargalski and husband David of Meriden, Denise Adkins and husband Jim of Meriden, David Staschke and wife Sharon of Southington. She also leaves 8 grandchildren, Scott, Kelly, Stacy, Danny, Kyle, Julie, Dustin and Brandon and 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

She loved music, dancing and being outdoors.

A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St. Southington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
