Obituary: Charles Arthur Nappi, 69

Charles Arthur Nappi, 69, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, 2017.

Charles was born in Waterbury on July 14, 1947 to Catherine (Bartoletti) Nappi and the late Arthur Nappi. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1965 and retired in 2012 as a Facility Mechanic at Waterbury Hospital. He enjoyed traveling and playing cards. He loved music, cars, and spending time with family.

Besides his mother, he leaves a wife Debra, a daughter Leanna and her husband Erik, and a granddaughter Ava. He leaves a brother Mark and his wife Karen, a sister Doreen and her husband Bob, and many nieces and nephews. He is also the brother of the late Arthur J. Nappi.

Lilia Pleskacz Harding, 69, of Berlin, was united with her Savior on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 surrounded by her loving children. She was the wife of the late Jeffrey Brooks Harding.

Lilia was born in Gdansk, Poland on July 22, 1947, and was the daughter of the late Borys and Maryia (Boyaryn) Pleskacz.

Lilia was a graduate of Central CT. State University and St. Joseph College receiving her MBA. She retired from Henkel/ Loctite Corp. and was a member of Bible Baptist Church, Cromwell.

She is survived by her children Justin B. Harding and wife Lindsay of East Hampton, Alyson Molloy and husband Eric of Plainville and Hannah Kaufman and husband John of Bristol, VT, a brother Janek Pleskacz and wife Sandy of Honolulu, HI; three sisters, Taisa Varricchione and husband Felix of Southington, Halina Marston and husband John of Southington and Eva Couillard and husband Mark of Sprague; five grandchildren, Jacob, Lola, Evangeline, Tessa and Jesse along with several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday at 10 AM at the Central Baptist Church 1505 West St., Southington. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial Donations may be made to the Bible Baptist Seminary 40 Country Squire Rd. Cromwell, CT 06416. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Obituary: Barbara Ann Givens, 82

Barbara Ann Givens, 82, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the HOCC New Britain General.

She was born in Stamford, the daughter of the late Roy and Pauline (Lockwood) Falby. Barbara was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War. Prior to her retirement she was the manager of health and beauty at the Grand Union Stores.  Barbara loved to garden, spend the holidays with family and friends. When she was younger she enjoyed spending time in VT and enjoyed many family vacations to Disney World.

She is survived by her children Roy and wife Danielle Givens of Wolcott, Kathy and husband Don Chariott of Berlin, Margie and husband Sy Soobitsky of Higganum, Michael Givens of North Dakota  and Robin and wife Tracey of  Saranac, NY, grandchildren Ty, Trent, Tirza, David, Rachel, Jason, Buddy, Joey, Wesley, Robin, Ashley, Michael Jr., Jessie and Andy, great-grandchildren Owen, Zayden, Jeffrey and Gavin.  She also leaves sisters Frances Sabato of Stamford and Edith McKee of Massapequa, NY.

She was predeceased by a brother Roy Falby and sister Evelyn Grasso.

Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 16th at 7 pm at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington, Burial will be at a later date in Guilford, VT. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 5-7 pm

Obituary: Louis Carl Nardi, 91

Louis Carl Nardi, 91, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2017 in Mesa, Arizona.

Born on April 21, 1925, in Southington, Connecticut, he was later a resident of San Diego, California, and Chandler, Arizona.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Carlo Nardi, a Southington tailor, and Marian Meccariello in 1975, his younger brother David Nardi in 1939, his younger sister Helen Doris Kane in 2005, and his second wife Margaret Bacon Klicka in 2004. All except Margaret are buried in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington.

He attended Lewis High School, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and later worked as a draftsman in the U.S. missile program at General Dynamics, a division of Convair, at Edwards Air Force Base in Lancaster and San Diego.

Louis is survived by his two loving children, Christine M. Guerra (Robert) and David A. Nardi (Janice), all of Arizona; his first wife Judith A. Miramontes of Arizona; his younger sister Marion Hummell of New Mexico; two stepchildren; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mesa, Arizona, followed by a private entombment at Greenwood Memorial Park, San Diego, beside his wife, Margaret, at a later date.

Obituary: Jennifer Joan (Murphy) Fitzgerald, 68

Jennifer Joan (Murphy) Fitzgerald, 68, the adored wife of Thomas C. Fitzgerald and beloved mother of Collin and Brandon Fitzgerald, passed away peacefully at home Sunday morning, March 12, 2017.

Jennifer’s legacy is her undying devotion to her family as wife mother and best friend. Jennifer was a graduate of St. Laurent School in Meriden and Maloney High School, Class of 1967. Jennifer continued her education at the University of Hartford and later at Tunxis College achieving a lifelong desire to enter the nursing field. Jennifer enjoyed successful careers at Corometrics and Hewlett-Packard before becoming a full-time homemaker after marriage.

Jennifer was born on February 5, 1949 to the late John Francis and Ruth (Partridge) Murphy. Jennifer was predeceased by her mother and father-in-law, Evelyn and Charles Fitzgerald and her sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Dan Lyons. In addition to her husband and sons, Jen is survived by Fred and Kathy Fitzgerald and their children, Dan, Taylor and Marc; Donna and Bob Benzinger and their sons, Mike and Kevin; Angela and Gary Massicotte and their children, Miles and Madison;  her nephew, Daniel Lyons and nieces, Cara Maxwell and Erin Barton.

Jen was an active member of St. Aloysius and St. Dominic’s parishes in Southington and St. Laurent’s parish in Meriden. One of Jen’s favorite events was making homemade sauce for the Holy Name Society’s annual Italian Dinner. Jen’s other passions were gardening, restoring religious artwork and she loved working with her customers at Patrick A. Baker and Sons.

Obituary: Harold E. ‘Harry’ White Sr., 79

Harold E. “Harry” White Sr., 79, of Southington passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 surrounded by his family after fighting a courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was the loving husband of Shirley (Casale) White.

Born July 15, 1937 in Keeseville, NY, he was the son of the late Garfield White and Lillian (Hutchinson) Reardon.

Harry was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion and an avid coin, clock and casino chip collector. Harry also enjoyed playing golf. Upon retirement, Harry and his wife resided in Las Vegas for 20 years then returned to Southington in 2011. He was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Southington for 35 years starting as a machine operator and achieving the position of the first Business Unit Manager of PWA.

In addition to his wife he leaves his children, Harold “Harry” E. White Jr. and wife Ann Marie of Colebrook, Cheryl “Sherry” Conaty and husband Mark of Southington and Dean White of Bristol; a sister Barbara Fasci of Bristol; five grandchildren, Kristen, Kelly and Patrick Conaty, Ashley White, and Hillary White and two great grandchildren, Sarah and Nathan of Massachusetts, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Betty Steinbrecher and Beverly Lovell. A special thanks to Harry’s caregiver, Shawkat Salmovi and the nursing staff on N5 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut.

A memorial Mass with military honors will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St., Southington at 10 a.m. You may pay your respects to the family prior to the mass at 9a.m. at church. Obituary: George J. Yurcak, 94

George J. Yurcak, 94, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2016 in Fort Myers, FL.

George was born in Southington on April 16, 1922 to Andrew and Caroline (Bacinsky) Yurcak.  He was a graduate of Lewis High School, class of 1939 and served 4 years in the US Navy during World War II as Chief ACMM-USNR on the USS Aventius.  George retired from Stanley Tools in New Britain, CT after 35  years, was a member of St Aloysius Church and moved to Cape Coral, FL in 1984.

George’s many activities and interests included membership in the US Power Squadron, VFW, BPO Elks, Moose, American Legion, Marion Community Club, and served as the Recording Secretary of the IAM/AW in New Britain. In Cape Coral, he was a member of Slavic American Club and the Southwest Florida Military Museum.  George was also an avid skier and golfer for many years.

George is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marion (Gernat) of St Louis, MO, his daughter, Marilyn Freundlich and son-in-law Andrew of St Louis,  son George Yurcak and daughter-in-law Rosemarie of Commack, NY;  his brothers Joseph of Southington and John of Nashua, NH;  one grandson, Matthew Freundlich;  four granddaughters, Maria Corso, Crista Ann Yurcak, Christina Freundlich, Antonietta Yurcak,  one great grandson, Joseph Corso, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will take place on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St Aloysius Church in Plantsville.  Interment will immediately follow at St Thomas Cemetery.

Obituary: Jaromir ‘Jerry’ Vymazal, 72

Jaromir “Jerry” Vymazal, 72, passed away March 16, 2017 at the Hartford Hospital with his daughters by his side. He was predeceased by his wife, Henriette Vymazal.

Jerry was born on August 16, 1944 in the Czech Republic. He moved to the United States in 1969 with his wife and together, they created a wonderful life filled with loving, caring family and friends. He devoted his life to his family and although his blood relatives remain in the Czech Republic, the amount of people that became his “family” is profound. We appreciate all the love and support that they have shown to us all. Once Jerry immigrated to this country, it became his country and he was proud to be an American.

Jerry worked at Waterbury Farrel, in Cheshire, CT for over 30 years. Later, he worked for Pated Springs in Bristol CT.

He is survived by his two daughters: Katherine Vymazal of Southington, CT and Yvette Mulholland and her husband Patrick Mulholland, also of Southington, CT.  He is also survived by the two people that he was most proud of, his grandchildren, Parker and Gabrielle Mulholland, to them and their friends he will always be known as “Dedo”.

The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at Hartford Hospital for their kind, pleasant and caring ways. They would personally like to thank Dr. Jeffery Kamradt for taking such good care of him over the years.

A memorial celebration of his life will be held at DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 North Main St. Southington, CT. on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 3:00- 6:00

Obituary: Michael A. Rossi, 87

Michael A. Rossi, 87, of Southington, passed away at home after a long illness on March 15, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of the late Marie (Celella) Rossi.

Michael was born on September 29, 1929 in Meriden, the son of the late John and Emma Rossi. He was a graduate of Quinnipiac University and served in the U.S.Air Force during the Korean War. Michael was a certified gemologist employed by Michael’s Jewelers for over 30 years and previously was employed by the International Silver Co. He was well known in Southington having served the town as a member of the Town Council for 30 years and was chairman from 1974-75, the Board of Finance, the Library Committee, the Housing Authority and served on the Republican Town Committee for 35 years, and the Southington Police Auxiliary and Benevolent Society. He was a parishioner of Mary Our Queen Church and served as lector, usher and on numerous committees. He was also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, the Sons of Italy, the Unico Club and the Rotary Club. He also served on the Board of Directors of the United Way. In his down time, Michael enjoyed watching the UCONN girl’s basketball team and the Boston Red Sox and spending time with his family.

Michael leaves his children, Michele Webster and husband William, Michael Rossi Jr. and wife Audrey of Sealy, TX, Maria Ramsay and husband Mark, Matthew Rossi and wife Kathy; 5 grandchildren, Meghan, Jeffrey, Nicholas, Nathan and Morgan, his sister Louise Rukus, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John Rossi.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Michael’s long time caregiver Eliso Guntsadze for all the care and comfort she provided. Also a special thank you to the other caregivers.

The Funeral will be held Monday 9:45 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington to Mary Our Queen Church at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass. The burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery with Military Honors. Marie Marion Cheney, 77 of Southington passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at HCC at New Britain General.

Born May 8, 1939 she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Marion (Gorman) Cheney.

Marie was a patron of the Immaculate Conception Church of Waterbury CT.

Marie worked on the Direct Support Staff for the ARC of Southington until her retirement.

Marie was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Family was the most important thing to her. She was always there for family and friends when they needed her. She had a very compassionate heart. She loved cooking, creating new recipes and playing Rummikub. Easter was her most loved holiday and the entire family had to be there. She is survived by her children, Michael Cheney and wife Dana of Ellicott City, MD, Debra Wilcox and husband Brian of Somers, April Anziano of Southington and Joseph Cheney of Waterbury; three brothers, Fred Cheney of California, Kenneth and David Cheney; a sister, Elaine Bruno of Florida; eight grandchildren, Nicole, Krystal, Kaili, Brianna, Trevor, Macy David and Emily and four great grandchildren, Evan, Lucas, Mikayla and David. She was predeceased by a brother Thomas. Marie’s family would like to thank the medical staff at the HCC at New Britain General Hospital.

Upon request of the family, there will be no visiting hours. A private service will be held. Lucille (Passanisi) Cioffi, 83 of Southington and formerly of Meriden, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Summit of Plantsville.  She was the wife of the late Andrew Cioffi.

She was born on Jan. 11, 1934 in Middletown the daughter of the late Angelo and Angelina (Gugliemino) Passanisi.  Prior to her retirement Lucille had been employed by Shop-Rite in Meriden for 25 years.

She is survived by two sons Michael Cioffi and wife Jane of North Carolina and Daniel Cioffi and wife Darleen of Southington, grandchildren Delina Coviello and husband Joe, Andrew Fiondella and girlfriend Rachel, great granddaughter Gianna Rose Coviello.  She also leaves a brother Angelo and wife Linda Passanisi and a sister Jane Davis all of Middletown, a brother-in-law Manny Spada as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a sister Dolly Spada.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at St. Thomas Church at 10:30 am.  Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington on Tuesday morning from 8:30- 10 am.

Dorothy (Daly) Kalvaitis, 85, of Plantsville section of Southington passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017 at home. She was the wife of the late William P. Kalvaitis. She was born April 10, 1931 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late John and Diana (Dube) Daly.

Dorothy was a former resident of Waterbury and a former parishioner of St. Leo’s Church and was active with the East End Senior Center.

She is survived by her children, William Kalvaitis and wife Staci of Plantsville, Diane Conradi and husband Randy of Stonington, Kathy McKenna and husband Rick of Maine and Christine Kalvaitis of Southington, 7 grandchildren, Ricky, Christopher, Jonathan, Lauren, Jennifer, Allison, Daniel and a great grandson Christopher. She also leaves a brother John Daly and wife Denise of Burlington and a sister Joan Day and husband Roger of Pine Hurst, NC a sister in law Lucille Pecha formerly of Litchfield and several nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, March 23, 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church, 255 Burritt St. Plantsville. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. Obituary: Friedrich M. ‘Fritz’ Sillner, 87

Friedrich M. “Fritz” Sillner, 87, of Southington, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Southington Care Center. He was the husband of the late Ingeborg (Schindler) Sillner.

He was born in Germany on April 23, 1929 the son of the late Martin and Walburga Sillner. Prior to his retirement he was the founder, owner and president of M & S Welding in New Britain. He was a member of the Donau Club in New Britain.  Fred enjoyed skiing.

He is survived by his loving partner of 14 years Lydia Williams, his children Fred Sillner of Southington and Richard Sillner, grandchildren Courtney, Ricky and Katie. He also leaves Lydia’s children Gretchen Williams, Stanton and Jenny Williams, Herbert and Lisa Williams and her grandchildren, Noah, Ella, Hans, Natalie and Eva Williams.

Funeral services and burial were privately held. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. assisted with arrangements.

Joseph C. Compas, of Southington, passed away on Wednesday March 15, 2017. He was born in Haiti and was the son of Moliere J. and Nellie Compas.

He is survived by family in both Canada and Haiti. He is survived by his brother Rotchille St Mersier and family, sisters Therese Compas and family and Christine Compas and family all of Canada, along with sister Eva Compas and family from Haiti. He also leaves fellow residents at Winter Grove in Southington where he resided. He was a wonderful free spirit and will be missed by all.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday March 25th at 11 AM at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St. Southington.

Patricia LaBrie, 58, of Southington, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Hospital of Central CT, New Britain Campus.

She was born Nov. 13, 1958 in Southington, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (LeBlond) LaBrie. She had been employed by Home Depot in Southington. Patricia was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church.

She is survived by 2 brothers, Mark LaBrie and wife Becky of Gilbert AZ, Matthew   LaBrie of New Britain, 4 sisters, Sylvia LaBrie of Southington, Elizabeth Gosse and husband Ronald of Colchester, Kathleen LaBrie of New Britain and Janet Govea of E.Hartford, her nieces Sarah, Teri-Lynn and Nancy, nephews Eric, Hunter, Will and Ryan. She was predeceased by a sister Claudia LaBrie.

Patty cherished her extended family and all her many dear friends. She was thankful of God’s blessings.

Charles “Charlie” Perreault, 64, of Southington, passed away unexpectedly at Bradley Memorial. He was the loving husband of Karen Perreault.

He was born in Meriden on Sept. 9, 1952, the son of the late John and Jeanie (Moore) Perreault. Charlie had been employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Middletown for 45 years.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children; Daniel Perreault and wife Kathleen of Middletown and Jennifer Desjardins and husband Ken of Meriden, stepchildren; Jessica and Kristina Clark; grandchildren; Jesse, Alexandra, Jared, Haley, Logan and Lylah. He also leaves his brother Thomas Perreault and wife Kimberly of Southington and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother John Perreault Jr.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St, Southington from 2-5 pm with a brief service held after.

William A. Cummings, 92, of W. Haven passed away Saturday, March 18th. He was the husband of the late Catherine (Quitek) Cummings for 61 years.

He was born Feb 10, 1925 in New Haven, the son of the late John and Blanche (Terwilliger) Cummings. He was a veteran of WWII in the U.S. Airforce as an Engineer Top Turret Gunner on B25 Bomber. He had retired from Standard Oil Co. An avid golfer who had an amazing seven hole-in-one’s, Bill traveled frequently with his ‘buddies’ to play golf in Myrtle Beach and Florida.

He is survived by his children, William J. Cummings and wife Diana L. of Bonita Springs FL, Craig D. Cummings and wife Denise of Waterbury, Patricia Kono and husband Thomas of N. Haven, 5 grandchildren, Christopher Cummings, Stefanie Cummings, Alexandra Cummings, Whitney Kono, and Andrew Kono. He was predeceased by his grandson Billy R. Cummings and Gloria DeGray, his late life companion.

Jay Maurice Janazzo, husband of Brenda Janazzo, left her loving hands to rest in peace on March 15, 2017. He was surrounded by all those who loved him and with prayers and thoughts.
Jay is survived by daughter Michelle Pompei and son in law Aaron Pompei; son Jay Janazzo and his partner Elizabeth Sunbury; grandchildren Phineas and Atticus Pompei; siblings Diane Dahn, Donna Janazzo, Kevin Janazzo, Marissa Salsbury, Christopher Janazzo, and Mark Reid; mother in law Carol Roberts; and several neices, nephews and brother and sister in laws.
He is predeceased by his parents Maurice Janazzo and Dorothy Reid.
Jay loved to captivate us all with his lengthy stories, pranks and genuine laughter. He loved Nascar Sunday, his cherished Mustang, sometimes the Giants and cooking. But most of all, he loved his family – all that he did, he did for his family. No one meant more to him than those that filled his heart.
If you were lucky enough to have known him, he considered you family.

Obituary: Charles H. Dennett Jr., 35

Charles H. Dennett Jr., 35, of Southington and formerly of Pawcatuck, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at his home. He was a loving son, beloved brother and favorite uncle.

Chuck was born on August 25, 1981 in Westerly, RI. He was a Southington High School graduate, Class of 1999. He worked at Supreme Lake Mfg., Stewart EFI, Tylaska and Jim’s Lawncare. Chuck loved the New Haven Nighthawks, Hartford Whalers, Boston Red Sox and fixing cars. He was kindhearted and would help anyone at any time. He was also an avid cat and dog lover. Chuck will be deeply missed by his extensive list of friends and family members.

Chuck is survived by his mother Rhonda St. Martin and stepfather Ed of Southington, his father Charles Dennett and paternal grandmother June Dennett, both of Pawcatuck; two brothers, Stephen Dennett and Jen of Deltona, FL and Benjamin St. Martin of Southington; two wonderful nephews, Bryce and Kayden Dennett, who he loved to hang out with and his “unofficial” adopted brother, Steve Schilling and his girlfriend Angela. He was predeceased by his aunt Linda Socha, maternal grandparents, Barbara and Ronald Bates and paternal grandfather, Ed Dennett.

A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held before the service from 2 – 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Obituary: Rev. J. Clifford Grise, 97

The Rev. J. Clifford Grise, 97, a priest of the Diocese of Bridgeport passed away on March 25th at the Jerome Home.

He was born on October 14, 1919, in Southington, CT, son of the late David J. and Mary (Flynn) Grise.  He attended Southington Schools; He then studied at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, CT and St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, MD.  Father Grise was ordained to the priesthood on March 17, 1945, in the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford by the late Archbishop Henry J. O’Brien.

During his over 72 years of priestly service, his assignments included St. Paul in West Haven, St. Joseph in Shelton, St. Mary in Norwalk, as well as his proud service as Chaplin in the U.S. Air Force.  In 1963, Father became the first Pastor of St. Agnes Church in Greenwich where he remained until his 1971 appointment as Pastor and Principal at St. Peter Church in Danbury.  Upon his Pastoral retirement in 1986, Father faithfully assisted at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, in Longboat Key, Florida for many years.  He returned to Connecticut, residing at the Catherine Dennis Keefe, Queen of the Clergy Residence for retired priests in Stamford.

Father Grise is survived by many nieces & nephews including Robert D. Foley of Cape Cod, MA; Mary Lou Kane of Cheshire, CT; and Lisbeth (Patrick) Dugan of Victor, NY; as well as numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in his hometown of Southington at Mary Our Queen Church, 248 Savage Street, Plantsville, CT at 11am on Thursday, March 30, 2017

Calling hours will be at Mary Our Queen Church before the Mass of Christian Burial from 10-11 am. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Jerome Home for the care, compassion and dedication to Father Grise.
