obituariesCherished by family, loved by friends, admired by colleagues, James F. Duffy left an indelible imprint on the world before succumbing on August 18, 2016 at age 83 following a long illness. Born in West Newton, Massachusetts on May 30, 1933, Jim graduated from Boston University in 1955, and shortly thereafter moved to Connecticut where he subsequently met the love of his life, Anne (Coyle), his wife of 56 years.  Together, they created a wonderful life together, full of loving family, remarkable friendships, extraordinary memories, fabulous experiences, and successful careers.

The very definition of a “hail fellow well met,” Jim embraced life and all it offered, enjoying simple pleasures and big moments alike.  A successful  sales and marketing executive, Jim’s colleagues and clients became friends, enriching his life and affording him a network of relationships throughout the world, far beyond his modest upbringing outside Boston.   His pleasures were vast:  listening or dancing to music of all genres, a cold martini, a rare steak, a Cape Cod summer and its seafood bounty, snuggling with grandchildren who loved their “Pa,” a rousing rendition of God Bless America, fine clothes, a standing Saturday morning tee time, a poker group that met regularly over four decades, fresh corn on the cob, and road trips to places known and unknown.

His greatest joy was his family; he continually professed his unbelievable luck in finding and loving his wife and was proud of his children and grandchildren and the lives they lead.  He was blessed to be cared for by family, longtime friends, and extraordinary caregivers at Southington Care Center.

He stood tall, but never overshadowed anyone.  His adoring family – wife Anne and daughters Sarah Duffy –Edwards (Ralph), Elizabeth Lowy, and Meg (Ralph) Perillo  and grandchildren Phoebe Edwards, Will Edwards, Jacob Lowy, Hannah Lowy and Sarah Rose Lowy will miss him each and every day, but give thanks for the wonderful life he provided and the love, support, and wisdom he offered…always.

A memorial mass for Jim will be offered on Friday, September 2, 2016 at St. Aloysius Church in Plantsville, CT.   Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to The Jim Duffy Recreation Fund,  c/o Southington Care Center, 45 Meriden Avenue, Southington, CT 06489 to fund recreation programs for residents, enjoyed so frequently by Jim and his family.
